Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Capt Vince Sanfilippo at an early age was captivated by fishing. His first experience (when he was around 8 years old) took place one day when his dad decided to take him and his brother fishing at the Sheepshead Bay boat basin. His dad casted his Penn bait-caster (I believe is was an old no. 77) rigged with Dacron line and baited hook ( “uncle josh shiners” he recalls). Suddenly his rod came to life and he instinctively pulled back. The fish gave him a short-lived battle (unfortunately came off the hook) but left an imprint on his life. To this day, he still wonders what he was connected to. This ignited his passion for fishing resulting in him becoming effecient in catching many northern species (ie bluefish, striped bass, porgies, blackfish, flounder, to name some) As he got older and developed his angling skills, he saved up enough money to purchased his first boat (21 foot Citation runabout) This exposed him to more fishing areas and was more efficient going at catching fish. In 2004, he had the unique opportunity to move to Miami, Florida where is passion for the sport only magnified to where it is now (a 365 day fishing fanatic! ok- I do take some holidays off!)
The current vessel--27 foot Sailfish center-console with twin 250 Yamaha 4stroke motors
She is loaded with many options such as GPS/Depth recorder, bathroom, 2 huge large live well, 2 coolers and lots of storage space. The vessel has plenty of room to fish, the draft is less than 2.50 feet and has a dry ride while underway.
Fishing Tackle used
I only use dependable rods, reels, and high end fishing tackle. Depending on the fish we are seeking, I do have the equipment to get connect with numerous species. The reels I use reels are Van Staal VM150 series, and Penn Battle series. All reels are rigged with high quality braid and mono; --fluorocarbon leaders on all rigs also. Lastly, I use owner hooks. The strategy of equipment used results in high hook-up ratios and fighting the fish correctly with minimal stress on them thus preserving our resources.
